Are children important?
Children are an important part of the Christian community at Highlands. Children are to be treasured because they are “a heritage from the Lord" and a "reward from him” (Ps. 127:3). Jesus set the exmple for cherishing children when he blessed them, saying, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Mt 19:14). We enjoy training and praying for the next generation.
Even though we take children's ministry seriously the parents of the church hold the primary God-given responsibilty to bring up their children in godly manner. The church's role in children’s ministry is supportive. We encourage parents to faithfully teach God's Word by reinforcing those same biblical ideals and modeling what genuine Christianity looks like. By God's grace, it is our prayer, all the children at Highlands will be like “a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season." (Psalm 1:3).
The purpose of Highland’s children and youth ministry is to see God glorified in everything that is done (1 Corinthians 10:31). We are passionate to see God’s glory displayed through every member of the local assembly - including children. God is glorified when children and teens take their next spiritual step in pursuit of lives that are worthy of the gospel by which they have been saved.
To train and motivate children and teens to…
1. Passionately love God and His Word with all of their heart
2. Unselfishly serve God and others with all of their abilities
3. Genuinely honor and obey their God-given authorities
4. Actively share the Gospel of Jesus through redemptive relationships
5. Consistently pursue personal purity and holiness
Children and teens who…
Wholeheartedly obey the truths of Scripture, the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and the example of Jesus Christ.
Zealously desire to grow spiritually by living for something much bigger than themselves. To help our post modern young people embrace eternal values. This is why the children’s and youth ministry at Highlands must be Christ-centered and Scripturally saturated.
Faithfully fulfill the Biblical goal of bringing honor and glory to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ by displaying His likeness.
